Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen easily defeated Theo Spencer, a former school board member, to secure the Democratic nomination for a second term.
As of 9:25 p.m., Carstarphen leads Spencer, 2,287-810.
In the Democratic primary for three at-large city council seats, incumbents Angel Fuentes and Nohemi Soria-Perez, and their running mate, Nurah Mhummad, are locked in a tight race with a rival slate headed by incumbent Sheila Davis and two running mates, Tyann La’Shae Harris and Corrine Powers.
A former high school basketball star, Carstarphen was appointed to the city council in 2020 and was appointed mayor in 2021.
