The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, a politically influential union with money and boots on the ground, today endorsed Rep. Robert J. Menendez (D-Jersey City) for re-election next year in New Jersey’s 8th district

“Rob has been a great friend to Union Carpenters and Labor in general since he took office earlier this year,” said William Sproule, the union’s executive secretary-treasurer.  “He has shown his commitment to supporting New Jersey union workers and working families through his first introduced bill, the Working Families Task Force Act.

Menendez faces a contested Democratic primary against Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla.  Bhalla thinks the indictment of Menendez’s father, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, on federal corruption charges makes the freshman congressman vulnerable.

Sproule said the congressman’s voting record during his first year in the U.S. House of Representatives has earned his union’s endorsement.

“Whether it is supporting workplace protections, fair wages, or strong retirement benefits for our members, Rob has always been there for us, and we will be there for him in 2024 when he is re-elected to Congress,” he stated.”

This is Menendez’s second carpenters union endorsement.

“I saw firsthand with my mother and my grandparents the difference that being in a union can make, and I will always support our brothers and sisters in labor,” Menendez said.  “Together, we will continue the fight for good-paying jobs, safe workplace conditions, and the right to organize for all workers.”
