A recount in Boonton gives Republican incumbent Cyril Wekilsky a one-vote victory in a race for a Ward 1 Town Council seat.
Wekilsky and Democrat Melissa Di Salvo were tied, 645-645. After today’s recount, Wekilsky won, 645-644.
Morris County Clerk Ann Grossi certified that only the vote-by-mail tally changed; there were no changes in the Early Voting, Election Day, or Provisional Ballot count.
It will now be up to Di Salvo to either challenge the election results or concede her narrow loss.
Wekilsky has held local office in Boonton on-and-off since 1988, when he first won a seat on the Board of Aldermen. He served as mayor from 2006 to 2015, when he lost to Matthew DiLauri by twenty percentage points. Wekilsky returned to the council in 2016. He was a school board member from 1980 to 1988.
