Just 52% of New Jerseyans are aware that the date of the primary election has been moved from June 2 to July 7 in response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new Monmouth University poll released today.

Still, the move appears incredibly popular, with 89% of New Jerseyans approving of a four-week extension and 7% disapproving.

Democrats are aware of the date change by a 54%-8% margin.  Among Republicans, the number is 50%-9%.  Independents, who are permitted to declare their party affiliation on primary day, are aware of the date change by a 51%-5% margin.

Nearly all Democrats (96%) agree with the decision, and Republicans are at 84%.

The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from April 16-19 with 704 New Jersey adults and has a margin of error of +/- 3.7%.
