After a week of in-person early voting and with just three days remaining before the November 8 general election,  New Jerseyans have cast 642,305 advance votes, 10.6% of all registered active voters in the state, according to an analysis by Associated Press political researcher Ryan Dubicki.

The total number of advance votes cast statewide so far is equal to 24.2% of all votes cast in the 2021 general election,  13.9% of 2021, and 19.8% of 2018.  Statewide turnout of registered voters in 2021 was 40%; it was 72% in 2020, 56% in 2018, 68% in 2016 and 36% in 2014.

Voters cast 25,709 in-person early votes on Friday, bringing the statewide total up to 150,752 during the first seven days of early voting.    In 2021, the first time in-person early voting was permitted, 139,049 New Jersey cast their ballots in the first week of early voting; this represents a 15% increase over last year.

As of Friday, 47% of in-person early votes were cast by registered Democrats, with 31% by registered Republicans.   Among VBM voters, 64% are registered Democrats and 20.5% are registered Republicans.

Early voting centers are open on Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM.

New Jersey has surpassed the 2021 vote-by-mail total by 42% over the same period of time.

In New Jersey’s 7th district, where former Senate Minority Leader Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) is seeking to unseat two-term Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes), 54,603 vote-by-mail ballots and 19,367 early votes have been cast.

Voters in the 3rd district have cast 51,693 mail-in ballots and 18,591 early votes for the contest between two-term Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) and Republican businessman Bob Healey.

In the rematch between three-term Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) and Republican Frank Pallotta in NJ-5, a total of 37,192 vote-by-mail ballots have been marked as returned by county election officials and 14,141 early votes have been cast.

In the 11th district, where Republican Paul DeGroot, a former Assistant Passaic County Prosecutor, is challenging two-term Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), 45,279 VBM ballots and 16,634 early votes have been cast.

For the purposes of calculating statewide voter turnout, the New Jersey Globe has deducted the 462,845 inactive voters from the statewide registration total of 6,499,539 votes.
