Ex-Christie aide gets top Hospital group post

Ray Brandes, a former deputy chief of staff to Gov. Chris Christie, is the new chief operating officer of the New Jersey Hospital Association.

Brandes had been the vice president of public affairs for University Hospital in Newark before joining the trade group that represents about 400  hospitals, health systems, nursing homes, home health agencies, and hospice providers.

“It is an honor to be a part of this important organization, especially at this critical time as we focus on the road back from COVID-19,” Brandes said. “I look forward to providing the high level of service that our members expect from NJHA and working to improve the health of all New Jersey citizens.”

As a top Christie staffer, Brandes was charged with overseeing the state budget.

The hospital group also named Christopher Bailey, a former executive at the Rutgers Financial Management unit at RWJBarnabas Health, is the new chief financial officer.
