The Hotel and Gaming Trades Council (HTC) announced today that it will support Democrat Sue Altman in New Jersey’s 7th congressional district, putting another union in Altman’s corner for her contest against Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield).
“We are proud to stand with Sue Altman,” HTC President Rich Maroko said in a statement. “Sue is a proven champion for union members. She is the kind of leader we need today in Congress, someone who understands workers’ issues and knows how to address them. We are eager to see her win this election and take her place in Congress.”
HTC, which represents more than 6,000 hospitality workers in North Jersey, joins the Communications Workers of America and 32BJ Service Employees International Union in supporting Altman.
The endorsement won’t mean much for the Democratic primary, which Altman is all but assured of winning after her three primary opponents successively dropped out of the race. But it could be important for her general election against Kean, expected to be the most competitive congressional race in New Jersey this year.
