As he mulls a possible run for governor next year, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff is up on the air today with a six-figure cable television ad buy promoting JumpStart Jersey, his initiative to share governing ideas from across the state.
Gottheimer has created a platform to collect ideas from elected officials and other New Jersey leaders and organize them in a one-stop-shop.
“We all love Jersey, but we also have our share of challenges and plenty of opportunities. We need to grow our economy with more jobs, make life more affordable for our families, and protect our Jersey Values,” Gottheimer said. “We don’t need to reinvent the wheel. We should be doing more to share the best ideas with each other.”
His website spotlights concepts brought to him by community leaders statewide. Recent ideas have come from Mayors Brian P. Stack of Union City, Christian Bollwage of Elizabeth, John McCormac of Woodbridge, Hector Lora of Passaic, Dwayne Warren of Orange, and Jimmy Davis of Bayonne.
The cable TV ad, Gottheimer says, aims to encourage the submission of new initiatives.
Whether it’s about housing, jobs, the environment, healthcare, childcare, reproductive freedom, fixing our roads – you name it. I want to hear it,” he said.
Transcript: “How do we JumpStart Jersey? The number one thing I hear from people: Make life more affordable. That means lowering taxes, fighting the Congestion Tax, and attracting more good-paying jobs, and it also means helping with day-to-day expenses like childcare. Let’s increase the Child Tax Credit, so moms and dads can better afford childcare, food, and diapers. Making Jersey more affordable won’t be easy. But, I’m a fighter and a problem solver. And, if we put families first, together, we can JumpStart Jersey.”
The North Jersey congressman and former Clinton White House speechwriter unseated a seven-term Republican incumbent in 2016 in a district that Donald Trump carried. He’s been re-elected three times.
