Ghee defends Webber, demands apology from Pou

Antony Ghee

Even though they are rivals in the 11th district GOP congressional primary, Tony Ghee has Jay Webber’s back and is calling on State Sen. Nellie Pou (D-Paterson) to apologize for bringing Webber’s daughters into a political argument.

“Has our political discourse gotten so bad, that we need to drag the children of candidates into political statements about the critical issues impacting our community?  It’s 2018 and we should all be able to agree on three simple concepts:  political corruption is bad and should be repudiated by everyone, regardless of party; everyone deserves equal pay for equal work and government has a responsibility to ensure that; and the family of a candidate for public office is off limits, especially their children,” said Ghee.

In a statement yesterday, Pou invoked Webber’s daughters in a stinging criticism of the Republican Assemblyman’s record on women’s issues.

“This campaign should not be about scoring cheap political points, rather it should be about putting the people we are seeking to serve above partisan politics.  We need leaders who are dedicated to serving a cause greater than themselves or their party, because the issues at stake in this election are too great to be mired in soundbites and cheap petty politics,” Ghee said.  “Senator Pou owes an immediate and unequivocal apology to the Webber’s for dragging their children into this campaign.”

  • While I have policy disagreements with Mr. Ghee, I appreciate his sentiments here. Jay Webber, Anthony Ghee, and the candidates on both sides of the aisle do share one thing in common: they are all people who are good fathers and mothers. It's unfortunate that a double-dipping State Senator would bring Jay's family into this.

    • Ahh, yes, "J" Courage of your convictions--so long as your name is not connected with any post.

  • Let’s call this what it is a distraction from the hot water Jay Webber got himself in when he attacked actual kids to their faces and pitted them against other kids- Webber had no problem setting up the MFOL a young woman in a meeting straight out of the Hunger Games in which he refused to answer questions and ambushed them with other kids that clearly were planted to push his NRA friendly agenda and then demanded THEY “debate” the issues- he then berated the MFOL kids for a fb post he didn’t like- but by all means let’s make a reference to his daughters in a generic sense an “attack” when the REAL issue is he has been voting against the interests of woman and girls since he took office, I know bc he is my Assemblyman and we can expect more of the same if he is elected to represent us in DC.

  • She did not disparage his children. At all. It was mereky pointed iut that Webber has daughters that would be adversely affected by Webber's vote. That is a true statement. This candidate and Webber are the folks lying and they should be apologizing for doing so.

    People , start fact checking.
