Mercer County Freeholder Anthony Verrelli on Tuesday announced his candidacy to fill the assembly seat left vacant by Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora when he was sworn into the latter post.
“I have lived in the 15th District all of my life. I was born in the City of Trenton, grew up in Lawrenceville, raised my family in Ewing and now live in Hopewell,” Verrelli said. “I understand every aspect of the 15th District and will be a fierce advocate for every resident.”
Verrelli, currently also president of Keystone + Mountain + Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters Local 254, joins Carl Benedetti Jr., a three-term member of Ewing’s Board of Education, in seeking the post.
Whoever the district’s Democratic committee people choose to fill the seat will have to win reelection in November to serve the remainder of the term.
