Update: After more Bergen County ballots were counted on Thursday, LaManna has increased his lead from 4 to 7, 3,275 to 3,268.

Democrat Angelo LaManna Jr. leads incumbent Republican Mayor Deirdre Dillon by just four votes in one of New Jersey’s closest municipal elections, with 39 provisional ballots still to be counted.

LaManna has 3,270 votes to Dillon’s 3,266, a margin of 50.01% to 49.95%, according to unofficial election results.

Write-in votes were cast for three people, including Sanders, the independent U.S. senator from Vermont and two-time Democratic presidential candidate.

LaManna was a 28-year veteran of the Ramsey Police Department and has served as the borough’s deputy emergency management coordinator for 24 years.

Dillon is seeking another term as mayor in a Bergen County borough where Republicans currently hold all six seats on the Borough Council.

Democrats are also leading in the race for two council seats, potentially breaking the GOP’s lock on municipal government.

Jennifer Crandall, the Democratic municipal chair, leads with 3,324 votes, followed by her running mate, Robert Barry, a businessman and former reporter, with 3,301.

Republican Council President Judith Cusick has 3,168 votes, while Jacob Englishman, a former Ramsey police dispatcher, has 3,137.

Crandall leads Cusick by 156 votes, while Barry is ahead of Englishman by 164.

Councilman Michael Gutweller did not seek re-election.
