Turner, Reynolds-Jackson, Verrelli win re-election in deep-blue 15th district

82-year-old Turner will soon be legislature’s oldest member

Democrats will continue to represent New Jersey’s capital, with State Sen. Shirley Turner (D-Lawrence), Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson (D-Trenton), and Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli (D-Hopewell) winning re-election in the Trenton-based 15th legislative district, the New Jersey Globe projects.

Turner defeated Republican Roger Locandro, the former mayor of Delaware Township, while Reynolds-Jackson and Verrelli beat lone Republican challenger Michel Hurtado.

Thanks to a number of retirements in other districts around the state, the 82-year-old Turner is set to become the statehouse’s oldest legislator when the legislature starts its new session in January, and one of its longest-serving members. Reynolds-Jackson and Verrelli are both newer, having won a pair of 2018 special election conventions to succeed State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio and Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora.
