Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill is launching two ads this morning that will be part of a multi-million dollar TV and digital buy that comes eight weeks before the June 10 primary election.
Both ads remind voters that Sherrill was a Navy helicopter pilot and use images of Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
In “Fire,” Sherrill narrates her own ad, promising to reduce the cost of housing, health care, and utilities, and to stand up to Trump and Musk.
“Fire” Script: “I’m Mikie Sherrill. I know the world feels like it is on fire right now. But I was trained in the Navy, that in a crisis, you run toward the fight. So, I’m running for governor to defend the state we love. To drive down costs for housing, health care, and utilities. To protect everything from your Social Security to our fundamental freedoms. To stand up to Trump and Musk with all I’ve got. I’m Mikie Sherrill. I’ve spent my life fighting for you and your family. And I am not stopping now.”
In “Fighter,” various male and female voices are used to introduce Sherrill to New Jersey voters, and driving the message that she’ll “drive down costs, from health care to housing” and accuses Trump and Musk of “wrecking our economy – even threatening social security.”
Script: “ (Voices) Some leaders just meet the moment. Today, that’s Democrat Mikie Sherrill – a Navy helicopter pilot. A federal prosecutor. And a mother of four. Mikie drove out a long-time Republican incumbent. As governor, she’ll drive down costs, from health care to housing. Fight the Trump-Musk madness that’s wrecking our economy. Even threatening Social Security. (Sherrill) I was trained in the Navy, that in a crisis, you run toward the fight. New Jersey will not be pushed around. Not on my watch. (Voices) Tough times demand the toughest fighter. And that’s Democrat Mikie Sherrill.”
An internal poll conducted for the Sherrill campaign shows the four-term congresswoman with a ten-point lead, 25%-15% over Rep. Josh Gottheimer, followed by Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, each at 13%. New Jersey Education Association President Sean Spiller is at 12%, and former Senate President Steve Sweeney at 6%.
