Bank denies Morris GOP debt claim

Says they have no record of any complaint being filed

Morris County Republican Chairman Ron DeFilippis

Morris County Republicans have spent more than a year alleging that Provident Bank owes them $1,279, but the bank says that’s not true.

“We have no record at all of any type of complaint or claim filed,” Keith Buscio, a spokesman for Provident, told the New Jersey Globe.

In quarterly filings with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission, the Morris County Republican Committee has reported a debt or obligation from Provident Bank.  The amount serves to increase the net worth of the party organization since they are essentially carrying it as a receivable.

Buscio says that his bank keeps detailed records of all claims.

“We have reviewed the account.  There is nothing close to that number in our records,” Buscio said.  We’ve done a thorough investigation.”

Robert Cascone, the party treasurer who signed the ELEC report, declined to comment on the discrepancy.  He referred the call to Republican county chairman Ron DeFilippis.

With just $16,017 in the bank, Morris County Republicans continue to struggle financially.

DeFilippis did not immediately respond to a 7:24 PM e-mail seeking comment.  If he responds, his comments will be added to this story.
