Scored 59% victory at convention this week

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rik Mehta

Rik Mehta won the Republican organization line in Mercer County, scoring a decisive 59% victory at their convention on Wednesday.

Mehta defeated Hirsh Singh by a vote of 38 to 14, with Natalie Rivera finishing third with 12 votes.

A fourth Senate candidate, Tricia Flanagan, received no votes in the county where she lives.

This was the eighth consecutive win for Mehta, a former U.S. Food and Drug Administration official who has emerged as the GOP frontrunner in the race to find an opponent for Cory Booker.

Mehta has won endorsements  in Burlington,  Camden, Hunterdon, Mercer, Monmouth, Somerset and Warren counties.  He also won the backing of the Ocean GOP screening committee, making him the favorite to win their line at their March 4 convention.

The New Jersey Globe reported earlier today that Mehta is set to be awarded the Hudson GOP line next week.
