Two New Jersey State Police detectives face up to 18 months in prison for lying about their involvement in a North Wildwood bar fight, Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced Thursday.
The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability charged Detective Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Ogden and Detective Sgt. Dorothy Ogden, a married couple, with falsifying or tampering with records, claiming they filed reports that inaccurately described their involvement in a fight at the Exit 6 Bar last February.
In an official report submitted two days after the incident — such reports are required to be filed immediately — Gregory Ogden said he was struck by a bottle after exiting the bathroom and said he was not involved in the fight.
But video reviewed by state authorities shows the detective charging an individual being escorted out of the bar, pulling on their hood and attempting twice to punch them, hitting a bouncer instead. Only then was Gregory Ogden hit with a glass bottle, authorities said.
Dorothy Ogden’s report claimed she lost track of her husband in the bar only to find him outside with blood on his face. Video showed her pushing multiple people, including the one who hit Gregory Ogden with a bottle.
Deputy Attorney General Brian Uzdavinis of the OPIA’s Corruption Bureau is representing the government. Robert Ebberup, of Toms River, is representing Gregory Ogden, while Dorothy Ogden is represented by Katherine Hartman.
