Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) said he’ll support whoever Vice President Kamala Harris chooses as her running mate, but hopes she considers New Jerseyans, including Senator Cory Booker, for the Veep nod.

“We’ve got unbelievable people around the country, and, by the way, in our state, who easily could, I think, be a great vice president,” he said in an interview Monday morning.

Gottheimer took the questions after a press conference announcing federal legislation that will target scams affecting people who receive food assistance.

“There’s unbelievable people,” Gottheimer said after he was asked who in the state was worth looking into. “I’ll start with Senator Cory Booker. He’s unbelievable as well.”

Gottheimer endorsed Harris for the presidency Sunday night after President Joe Biden announced the suspension of his reelection bid.

“What New Jersey likes is a good fighter,” Gottheimer said at Monday’s press conference. “You couldn’t ask for a better fighter than the vice president.”

Gottheimer said he was honored that a group of top Hudson County Democrats backed his potential bid for the governorship next year, but said he’s focused on his congressional work right now.

“I’m just focused on one thing, fighting for Jersey,” the Democrat said. “I’m going to keep doing that like I did today, and we’ll talk about all the other stuff later.”
