The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission ordered four municipal candidates to pay more than $46,000 in fines over campaign finance violation, the commission announced Wednesday.
The overwhelming bulk of the fine were levied against James Janone for failing to report contributions or file a sworn candidate statement when he ran for council in Victory Gardens in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
He was ordered to pay $15,200 for each year of violations, for a total of $45,600. The commission dismissed six other fines because they could not determine whether Janone spent more than $4,500 in 2015 and 2016 or more than $5,100 in 2017.
The commission fined Alphonse Bartelloni $775.68 for filing sworn candidate statements 1,010 and 855 days late while seeking local office in River Edge in 2018. Bartelloni has already paid the fines.
Mark DiSanto was reprimanded for filing a sworn candidate statement in his 2018 bid for Cape May City Council 870 days late.
ELEC fined Bergenfield Councilman Thomas Lodato $300.92 for filing a joint candidate statement for his 2018 bid for council 996 days late. Lodato has already paid the fine.
