DeLorenzo wins Bergen GOP Sheriff nod

Hasbrouck Heights Mayor Jack DeLorenzo

Bergen County Republicans have picked Hasbrouck Heights Mayor Jack DeLorenzo as their candidate for Sheriff.

DeLorenzo defeated Midland Park Mayor Harry Shortway, former PBA president Lewis Morrell, and retired Sheriff’s officer Matt Ryan.

Sources who asked not to be identified, said the candidates agreed in advance of the meeting not to release a vote total, but that DeLorenzo won by a wide margin.

DeLorenzo, who spent 25 years as a police captain before his election as mayor, will face the winner of a Democratic convention tomorrow night between Anthony Cureton, the former president of the Bergen County NAACP, and Saddle Brook Police Chief Bob Kugler.  Cureton has the backing of Bergen County Democratic Chairman Louis Stellato.
