County Committee elections for Democrats in Cape May have been postpone until June 2021, county chairman Brendan Sciarra announced today.
“The face-to-face interaction of candidates and voters in holding a county election for the nearly 250 committee seats would jeopardize public health and safety as well as circumvent national, state and local efforts in combating the coronavirus,” said Sciarra.
Sciarra held an emergency meeting with the county organization’s executive committee on Saturday afternoon. He said the group unanimously agreed to extend the terms of county committee members elected in 2018 by one year.
“In this extraordinary world-wide crisis, our political responsibilities mandate that we take a proactive approach in helping to eradicate this deadly pandemic,” Sciarra said. “Postponing this year’s county committee elections is clearly the right thing to do.”
