Schaer, Calabrese win in 36th

Incumbents defeat Edward Toga Gonca in Democratic primary

Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese (D-Cliffside Park)

The New Jersey Globe is calling the Democratic primary for State Assembly in the 36th district for incumbents Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) and Clinton Calabrese (D-Cliffside Park).

They have defeated their primary opponent, Edward Tolga Gonca.

Schaer and Calabrese will face Republicans Foster Lowe and Khaldoun Androwis in the general election.

Republicans last won this district in 2001.

Schaer, the Passaic council president, was first elected to the Assembly in 2005.  Calabrese was elected to the Assembly in a 2017 special election convention after Marlene Carlide resigned to become Commissioner of Banking and Insurance.
