Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove is pulling her endorsement of former Burlington County Freeholder Director Kate Gibbs following David Richter’s victory at the Ocean County Republican Committee’s convention Wednesday night.
“We do believe in the process,” Gove said. “We followed the process, and now the convention is another part of the Democratic process, so we will be supporting the candidate that the convention supported.”
Gove and a number of other Ocean County Republicans backed Gibbs after she received the endorsement of the Ocean County GOP screening committee, but Richter defeated her, 68-60, at Wednesday’s convention.
So far, two Republicans, Gove and Republican National Committeewoman Ginny Haines, have switched their endorsements to the organization’s chosen candidate.
Gibbs, Richter and Barnegat Mayor John Novak are vying for the Republican nod to take on Rep. Andy Kim (D-Marlton).
The former freeholder has the line in her home county.
