Eagleton Institute Director and former Attorney General John J. Farmer, Jr. released the following statement on the death of Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver:
“With Sheila Oliver’s passing, New Jersey has lost a true and dedicated public servant and Rutgers has lost a great friend and champion. At a critical time in this university’s history, when Rutgers’ very existence was threatened, Speaker Oliver refused to post the bill that would have dissolved our Board of Trustees. She did so at great political cost because it was simply the right thing to do. Her act of political courage should never be forgotten and her name should be honored by everyone who loves this university. She will be missed”
