Former Senate President Steve Sweeney, facing a competitive Democratic convention in Burlington County on Saturday, today received a slew of endorsements from elected officials and party leaders, including four countywide officeholders and four mayors.

Announcing their support of Sweeney were County Clerk Joanne Schwartz, Sheriff James Kostoplis, and County Commissioners Felicia Hopson and Tyler Burrell.  They join Rep. Herb Conaway, Jr. (D-Moorestown), State Sen. Troy Singleton (D-Delran), and Assemblywomen Carol Murphy (D-Mount Laurel) and Andrea Katz (D-Chesterfield).

Also signing on as Sweeney for Governor supporters: Mayor Jaclyn Veasy, Deputy Mayor Krystal Hunter, Councilmembers Christian Smith, and Heather Cooper (Evesham); Mayor Heather Talarico, Deputy Mayor John Zahradnik, and former Mayor Rob Wells (Maple Shade); Mayor Gary Haman, Deputy Mayor Christopher Marter, and former Mayor Richard Horton (Riverside); former Mayor Richard DiFolco (Mount Holly); Councilman Odie Carr (Westampton); Councilmembers Robert Lowden and Bernadine Williams (Beverly); Council President Thomas Lyon and former Mayor Gary Catrambone (Delran); former County Chairman Gary Karr; former Burlington County Federation of Democratic Women President Nancy Youngkin; Democratic Municipal Chair Rames Jayaram and Councilman John Fratinardo (Florence); former Mayor David Patriarca (Pemberton); and Democratic Municipal Chair Ray Coxe (Medford).

Sweeney also has the backing of Mt. Laurel Mayor Nikita Moustakas and the entire township council, and the South Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council.

“I’m honored to have the backing of these great Democratic leaders from Burlington County. I grew up in Pennsauken, right next door to Burlington County, so this means a lot to me personally,” Sweeney said  “As the only candidate in this race from South Jersey I don’t need a map to find Burlington County and I’ll make sure Burlington’s leaders always have a seat at the table in Trenton.”
