Make the Road Action Denounces Anti-Immigrant Comments Made By U.S. Senate Candidate Bob Hugin On behalf of the immigrant rights group Make the Road Action, Sara Cullinane issued the following statement in response to comments made by U.S. Senate Candidate, Bob Hugin, on a radio interview where he claims that the “idea of sanctuary cities is just illegal”: ”

A national immigrants rights group is denouncing Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin’s comments that “the idea of sanctuary cities is just illegal.”  Hugin made his comments on Rich Zeoli’s 92.7 WOBM-FM radio show.

“Bob Hugin’s recent comments regarding sanctuary cities take a page from President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Session’s divisive and inflammatory playbook that scapegoats and vilifies immigrants,” said Sara Cullinane of Make the Road Action.  “By stating that sanctuary cities are illegal, Hugin is propagating Trump’s deception and facilitating this administration’s mass deportation agenda. He is sending a clear message that if he were elected to the U.S. Senate, he would rather criminalize all immigrants than uphold the Constitution.”

Cullinane says local law enforcement is not obligation “to act as foot soldiers for ICE.”

“Bob Hugin doesn’t seem to understand that the job of elected officials and law enforcement is to protect us, not to separate families and tear apart our communities,” Cullinane said.
