Former Cumberland County Commissioner Donna Pearson (D-Pearson) has endorsed civil rights attorney Tim Alexander for Congress in the 2nd congressional district, potentially boosting Alexander ahead of next week’s Cumberland Democratic convention.

“Our rights are on the ballot this year, we need a leader like Tim who would go to DC and stand up for South Jersey,” Pearson said in a statement. “As a civil rights attorney, I know Tim will be a strong ally in the fights Congress has ahead. And I also know that he will remain laser-focused on delivering the best for his district. At this pivotal moment in history, we need the Tim Alexanders of the nation in DC fighting for us.”

Alexander was the Democratic nominee for the 2nd district in 2022, losing to incumbent Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) 59%-40%.

This year, three other Democrats are running for the same seat: tech entrepreneur Joe Salerno, 2022 Democratic runner-up Carolyn Rush, and Brandon Saffold. The race appears to be primarily between Alexander and Salerno, who has a wide fundraising advantage thanks to a hefty amount of self-funding.
