The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Rep. Christopher Smith (R-Manchester) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 4th district.

“Chris Smith is not only a champion for New Jersey but for free enterprise policies that help our economy grow,” said Neil Bradley, the executive vice president and chief policy officer of  the chamber.  “Whether delivering aid to small businesses suffering from the pandemic or a natural disaster or supporting the infrastructure investment necessary to keep the Garden State moving, job creators in New Jersey can count on Chris Smith.”

Smith faces two challenges in next week’s Republican primary: podcaster Michael Crispi and retired FBI agent Steve Gray.  A third candidate, Michael Blasi, dropped out of the race last month but his name remains on the ballot.

“Especially in New Jersey, businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic and Biden’s anti-economic growth policies,” said Smith, who is seeking his 22nd term in Congress.  “I look forward to working with the Chamber in the next Congress to pass legislation that assists small businesses and entrepreneurs and improves our economy.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce also endorsed Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) for re-election in the 2nd district and Tom Kean, Jr., the former minority leader of the New Jersey State Senate, in the 7th district.  Kean is seeking the GOP nod to take on Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes).

Businessman Matt Jenkins is unopposed for the Democratic nomination in NJ-4, a safe Republican seat.
