In advance of Monday’s election for Union County Republican chairman, Carlos Santos has rolled out some endorsements in his bid to unseat ten-year incumbent Glenn Mortimer.
Santos has secured the backing of Roselle Park Councilman Kjan Patel, former Garwood Mayor Patricia Quattrocchi, former Union County Associate Vice Chair Maryann Janusz, and former five-term Rahway Councilman Frank Janusz.
He has the backing of municipal chairs in Springfield, Plainfield, Winfield Park, Roselle Park, Elizabeth, Union, Linden, Scotch Plains, Rahway, Garwood, Roselle, Hillside, and Clark, where Mayor Sal Bonnacorso is chair.
For Santos to unseat Mortimer, he’ll need to turn out the nearly 200 county committee members from heavily Democratic areas – Union Township, Elizabeth, Rahway, and Springfield – where Santos has filled seats that haven’t been occupied in years.
Mortimer has the support of Rep. Thomas Kean (R-Westfield), State Sen. Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield), Assemblywoman Michele Matsikoudis (R-New Providence) and Nancy Munoz (R-Summit), and eight GOP municipal chairs.
