Itir Cole has expanded her lead from five votes to 33 in the race for an open seat on the Haddonfield Borough Commission today after additional ballots were counted.

Cole leads William Shanahan, 1,964-1,932.  Last night, she was ahead, 1,852-1,847.

The new margin may be enough to give Cole a win in Tuesday’s non-partisan municipal election.

Incumbents Dave Seidel (2,185) and Frank Troy (2,123) were re-elected.

Mayor Colleen Bianco Bezich did not seek re-election and is instead running for Camden County Commissioner with the backing of the county Democratic organization.

Cole is a former contract senior technology expert at the White House and the mother of two young boys. She has a master’s degree in urban planning from Columbia University and was a consultant at the World Bank.

Shanahan spent three decades in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Afghanistan, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel; he earned senior Army aviator wings and the Bronze Star.  A former director of government relations for PATCO, he is the director of Homeland Security for the Delaware River Port Authority.

The governing body comprises three commissioners elected in non-partisan municipal elections every four years.
