Court says no to Beach attempt to stay Cherry Hill ruling

Camden Dems could take this to N.J. Supreme Court

The New Jersey Appellate Court today rejected a bid by Camden County Democrats to stay their own decision from Friday, which allowed three progressive members of the Cherry Hill Democratic County Committee to fill 71 vacant at-large county committee seats.

The request was made by State Sen. James Beach (D-Voorhees), the Camden County Democratic chairman.

“The application on its face does not concern a threat of irreparable injury, or a situation in which the interests of justice otherwise require adjudication on short notice,” said Presiding Appellate Court Judge Jessica Mayer in a decision that involved checking one box on a six-box form.

The next step would be for Beach to ask the New Jersey Supreme Court to stay the ruling pending an appeal before the state’s top court.

Progressives Susan Druckenbrod, Rena Margulis, and Dave Stahl were the lone candidates on the June 2025 ballot for 74 Democratic county committee seats in Cherry Hill.  In Camden County, all candidates in a municipality run together at-large; they are not elected by voting district.

Beach went to court in a bid to seat the candidates who finished 4th through 74th last June.

Unless the Supreme Court stays the decision, Druckenbrod, Margulis and Stahl will be free to appoint 71 new people.
