Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg wants Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino to resign following the release of a tape on which he was reportedly recorded making racist statements.

“The racist, homophobic and derogatory words employed by Sheriff Saudino are a highly-offensive assault on the principles of respect and decency that are a vital part of American society. They cannot be excused, condoned or accepted. As a high-ranking law enforcement official in Bergen County, Sheriff Saudino has done an injustice to the standards of conduct that are required of public officials and a disservice to the men and women who serve with honor in law enforcement,” Weinberg said in a statement. “Mr. Saudino should resign from his position immediately.”
