Statements on the death of former Rep. Frank Guarini at 101

The following statements have been issued on the passing of 101-year-old Frank J. Guarini, a Jersey City Democrat who served in the New Jersey State Senate from 1966 to 1972 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1993:

REP. LAMONICA MCIVER

“Saddened to learn of the loss of Congressman Frank J. Guarini. Just weeks ago, I joined him for the ribbon cutting of the Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex in Jersey City, and at age 101, he continued to inspire so many of us. Praying for his family and loved ones.”

HUDSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG GUY

“As a lifelong resident of Jersey City, I had the personal and professional privilege of meeting former Congressman Frank J. Guarini on several occasions. He was a true fighter for his district and a dedicated public servant who led with conviction, integrity, and purpose.

 “Having known his family and friends, it has always been clear how deeply he was respected – not only for his long record of public service, but for the genuine care he showed for the people and communities he represented.

 “Former Congressman Guarini remained closely connected to Jersey City and Hudson County throughout his life. His commitment to service and his enduring contributions to our community and beyond will be felt for generations to come.

”On behalf of Hudson County, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who had the honor of knowing and working with him.”

“Until further notice, the County Executive has ordered all flags on Hudson County property to be flown at half-staff to commemorate the life and service of former Congressman Frank J. Guarini.

From his service in the Navy to his time in Congress and the UN, Frank’s life was defined by integrity and a lifelong commitment to the people. “Congressman Guarini distinguished himself in government and business. Less known but equally important, he saw active combat in World War II aboard the USS Mount McKinley. He took part in several key battles of the Pacific Theater, including Leyte, Lingayen Gulf, and Okinawa. One of the last lights of the Greatest Generation.”

“For more than half a century, Frank Guarini answered the call to serve. A decorated World War II veteran, he went on to serve in the New Jersey State Senate and the halls of Congress, dedicating his life to public service and helping shape the future of New Jersey.
