Carolyn “Marie” Scrivo, the mother of New Jersey power lawyer Thomas Scrivo, died on July 21. She was 94.
In a tribute provided by the Leonardis Memorial Home, “Marie’s central mission in life was to support and take care of her family, which she did flawlessly. Marie was known for her incredible cooking and spotless homes.”
“She was always well-dressed and dignified. Marie’s most cherished possession was her family,” her family said. “Indeed, her happiest times were when she was surrounded by her family and friends, particularly at the family’s summer home in Toms River, where they hosted countless gatherings.
She met her husband, Bruno Scrivo, a U.S. Army veteran and owner of a Newark-based garment manufacturing company, on a trolley car on Bloomfield Avenue in 1948. They were married in 1953, and he predeceased her in 2020.
In addition to her son, a former chief counsel to the governor, Scrivo is survived by her other three sons, Peter, Steven, and Robert; her four daughters-in-law; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on July 24 at 11 AM at St. Philomena R.C. Church in Livingston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Scrivo’s name to Muscular Dystrophy Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
