Edward Bien, who served as Mayor of New Providence from 1966 to 1978, died on June 24. He was 98. A World War II veteran, Bien served as a school board member and councilman before his election as mayor. He was the president of the New Jersey League of Municipalities in 1977.
Janet Ozzard, the widow of former Senate President William Ozzard, died on May 4. SHe was 91. William Ozzard unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for governor in 1969 and served on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
Robert Strong, who held elected office in two Monmouth County municipalities, died on June 28. A World War II veteran, Strong served as Mayor of Keyport and as a councilman in Keyport and Matawan.
John Pacifico, a Raritan Councilman from 1988 to 1991, passed away on June 28. He was 91. Pacifico spent thirty years on the Raritan Recreation Commission, and 24 years as the business administrator for the Hillsborough Board of Education. He was the Democratic nominee for Mayor of Raritan in 1991.
Raymond Murphy, a former Rochelle Park Councilman, died on June 25. He was 94. A Korean War veteran, he served on the council in the 1960s.
Grace Simmons Giles, the wife of Superior Court Judge F. Michael Giles, passed away on June 22.
Janet Lechner, who worked as a bookkeeper at Holmdel Township Hall, died on June 23. She was 82.
Charlita Dixon, a secretarial assistant at the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, died on June 25. She was 63.
Robert Seelhorst, a U.S. Army veteran whose father was a prominent Camden County politician died on June 24. He was 70. His father, C. Glenn Seelhorst, was a Camden County Freeholder from 1959 to 1962, a Camden County Clerk from 1962 to 1968, a Stratford Councilman from 1955 to 1958, and Mayor from 1958 to 1960.
Albert Longley Hale, who was active in the civil rights movement in the 1960s and George McGovern’s campaign for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination, died on April 10. He was 92. Hale lived in Berkeley Heights while working at Bell Labs.
