U.S. and New Jersey flags will fly at half-staff on Tuesday, November 19, in honor of former State Sen. James H. Wallwork (R-Short Hills), who died on October 23 at age 94.

“Senator Wallwork was a dedicated public servant who served with integrity,” said Acting Governor Tahesha Way. “We offer our deepest condolences to his loved ones, and we thank him for his years of dedicated service.”

A West Point graduate and businessman, Wallwork was an assemblyman from 1954 to 1966 and a state senator from 1968 to 1982.  He served as Senate Minority Whip and Assistant Minority Leader and later as a commissioner of the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.  He sought the Republican nomination for governor in 1981 and again in 1993.

Executive Order No. 371 was the first to be signed by Kate McDonnell, who assumed office today as the new chief counsel to the governor.  Parimal Garg departed on Friday after setting the record as the longest-serving chief counsel in state history.
