Gov. Phil Murphy has nominated Fanny Cedeno, a two-term Hudson County commissioner and a political ally of Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Brian P. Stack, to serve as a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

If confirmed by the Senate, Cedeno would become the first Latina to serve as a Port Authority Commissioner from New Jersey.  She would also become the lone New Jersey woman on the board.

Cedeno will replace Craig Guy, who withdrew his own nomination to focus on his work as Hudson County Executive and Democratic county chairman.  He stepped aside to assure greater diversity on the bi-state authority’s governing body.  The current occupant of the seat is moving to a different seat on the Port Authority.

Before taking a job more than 11 years ago at Union City Hall, where Stack is the longtime mayor, Cedeno spent six years as an operations coordinator for a Secaucus-based global logistics and supply chain management company specializing in port drayage and intermodal transportation.

Cedeno was elected county commissioner in 2020 and was re-elected in 2023.
