Former Gov. Chris Christie, who is considering a third bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, has had trouble with parking regulations in New Jersey.
Christie has received six parking tickets in less than a year while driving his 2024 blue Audi station wagon, pleading guilty and paying a combined $224 in fines and court costs.
Four tickets came in Madison, where Parking Enforcement Officer Cindy Weir cited Christie three times for exceeding the four-hour parking limit on Maple Avenue and once for parking without paying in a municipal lot near the train station.
The Maple Avenue violations occurred on November 18, 2025, April 2, 2026, and May 5, 2026, resulting in penalties of $43, $33, and $33, respectively.
The May 15 municipal lot violation cost Christie $41, including a $20 fine.
In Summit, Parking Enforcement Officer James Tolve issued Christie two tickets for overtime parking on Broad Street, on March 12 and April 30. Christie paid $32 and $42, respectively.
All six tickets have been resolved.
Christie’s parking problems are nothing new. In 2023, he received a $50 ticket for parking on a Jersey City street near a gourmet chocolate shop during street-cleaning hours and missed the payment deadline. He paid the ticket, plus a service charge, shortly after the New Jersey Globe contacted him.
In May 2025, Christie was ticketed for improper parking at the Hartley-Dodge Memorial Building in Madison and paid $56.65.
Christie also has a lengthy driving record. As the New Jersey Globe previously reported, he had been involved in six accidents and received 13 moving violations dating back to 1985. In 2005, while serving as U.S. Attorney, he was stopped for speeding in Lambertville but allowed to drive away despite having an unregistered vehicle.
