Gov. Mikie Sherrill is headed to Georgia on Friday to campaign with Jon Ossoff, the Democratic U.S. Senator seeking re-election to a second term in next week’s election.

Sherrill is going for the day; she will join Ossoff at a canvass launch tomorrow afternoon in DeKalb County, and then headline a second event in Tucker.  She’ll be back in New Jersey late Friday evening.

Senate President Nicholas Scutari will serve as acting governor in her absence.   This could be Scutari’s last stint as chief executive, at least for a little while; Sherrill must fill the vacancy caused by Lt. Governor Dale Caldwell’s resignation by November 9.

Sherrill has made trip[s to Illinois, Ohio and Arizona this week.

Ossoff is seeking a second term in Georgia against Republican Rep. Mike Collins in a state Donald Trump carried by 2.2 percentage points in 2024.

Recent polling shows Ossoff with a substantial lead: an October 7–15 University of Georgia poll for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution showed Ossoff leading, 48% to 40%, and the Decision Desk HQ polling average puts Ossoff at 52.7% and Collins at 42.7%.   Former President Barack Obama campaigned with Ossoff in Georgia on Wednesday as early voting entered its final days.
