Working Families slams Van Drew for impeachment resolution vote

New Jersey Working Families slammed Rep. Jeff Van Drew for his no vote on an impeachment resolution before in the House Thursday.

“New Jersey Working Families will continue to build and organize progressive voters in CD2 and across the state, so that New Jersey has values-driven representation their constituents deserve,” Working Families director Sue Altman said.

Van Drew was one of two Democrats—the only one in New Jersey’s congressional delegation—to vote against Thursday’s resolution.

Thursday’s vote created rules for the public-facing phase of an impeachment inquiry that has largely been conducted behind closed doors up until this point.

The measure allows the House Intelligence Committee to hold public hearings and create a report for the House Judiciary Committee, which will decide whether to draft articles of impeachment against Trump.

It also provides Trump with due process rights, including allowing his attorneys to participate in the hearings.

The measure passed 232-196, largely along party lines.

Earlier Thursday, New Jersey Citizen Action called for the Democratic Party to drop its support of Van Drew over the vote.

“Jeff VanDrew’s cowardly vote shows exactly what progressives are up against in South Jersey,” Altman said. “New Jersey is a solidly blue state, with a Democratic Governor, Democratically-controlled state Legislature, and all but one Democrat in Congress. Yet Van Drew sided with Trump even when other New Jersey members of Congress in districts just as vulnerable voted for impeachment.
