Gov. Mikie Sherrill will headline a $3,500-per-person fundraiser for the re-election of Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden) in New Jersey’s 1st district.

The February 27 luncheon will be at a restaurant in Cherry Hill.

Sherrill said in November that she would support all Democratic incumbents seeking re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Norcross faces a primary challenge from newcomer Lonnie Affrime, a progressive activist and cannabis store owner.  In his last primary challenge in 2022, Norcross crushed progressive Mario DeSantis with 78% of the vote.

The last incumbent congressman from New Jersey to lose a primary (excluding redistricting years when two incumbents faced off) was Alfred Sieminski (D-Jersey City) in 1958.  The four-term Democrat had fallen out of favor with the Hudson County Democratic machine and won just 14% of the vote in the Democratic primary.
