Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) holds a massive cash lead over Republican challenger Rosemary Becchi, according to pre-general election campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
The first-term congresswoman reported raising $193,066 in the first two weeks of October. Becchi brought in about a third as much, $63,312, over the same period. The incumbent had just shy of $3.7 million in her war chest. The challenger had $167,381.
Sherrill received $163,502 in individual donations and $28,043 from political committees. Almost all of the money Becchi received between Oct. 1 and Oct. 14, $62,712, came from individual donations. She received just $600 from political action committees.
The congresswoman also outspent her challenger, putting $464,135 into the race to Becchi’s $183,548 over the two-week period.
The above figures do not include raising or spending by the candidates’ political action committees, nor do they include independent expenditures made on their behalf.
Republicans held the 11th district’s seat for more than four decades before Sherrill defeated Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains) to win it in 2018.
