Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) has $1,849,956 in his campaign warchest after raising $133,837 during the first quarter of 2020, dwarfing the campaign fundraising of two challengers in the 9th district Democratic primary.
Pascrell has raised $1,024,123 since starting his 12th term in the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2019.
Zina Spezakis, a green energy investor who had backed Bernie Sanders’ presidential bid, has raised $184,569 – nearly two-thirds of it from a personal loan – has $62,833 remaining in her campaign account. Attorney Alp Basaran, who loaned his campaign $50,000, has $1,343 cash-on-hand after spending most of the $78,581 he raised.
Pascrell was elected to Congress in 1996, ousting freshman Rep. Bill Martini (R-Clifton) after serving as an assemblyman, Passaic County Democratic chairman, and mayor of Paterson.
He defeated 2018 primary opponent William O. Henry with 86% of the vote.
