Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes), who won re-election in New Jersey’s 7th district by a narrow 1% margin in 2020, raised $59,809 between Thanksgiving and New Year’s and now has $51,095 cash-on-hand for his 2022 re-election bid.

Malinowski defeated Tom Kean, Jr., the minority leader of the New Jersey Senate, by 5,311 votes, 50.6% to 49.4%.

Kean is mulling a rematch against Malinowski next year in a district that still has not been drawn.  A new map reflecting the 2020 U.S. Census figures likely won’t come before next year.

In the meantime, Kean must decide if he’ll give up the State Senate seat he’s held since 2003 to focus on another congressional run.

In his bid for a second term, Malinowski raised $7,434,433 without taking corporate PAC money.   He spent nearly all of it — $7,405,224 – to win re-election.

Malinowski reported refunding $4,251 in contributions and no campaign debt, according to his filing with the Federal Election Commission.
