All nine Hudson County Commissioners endorsed Rep. Robert J. Menendez (D-Jersey City) for re-election to a second term on Wednesday evening, joining an avalanche of Hudson politicians standing with the freshman Democrat.
“Congressman Menendez has been an incredible partner to the County of Hudson and we need him to continue working hard every day in Washington to deliver the federal resources our working class communities need,” said Caridad Rodriguez, a county commissioner from West New York.
Rodriguez added, “As a Latina leader in Hudson County, I believe in the power of representation and know how important it is that we have Hispanic representation in Congress,” said Rodriguez. “Menendez is the right choice to keep representing the people of Hudson County.”
Following the indictment of Menendez’s father, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, on federal corruption charges, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla has decided to mount a bid for the Democratic congressional nomination in New Jersey’s 8th district.
Among the commissioners backing Menendez is Anthony “Stick Romano, who lost a mayoral race to Bhalla six years ago.
Also supporting Menendez is Commissioner Bill O’Dea, an announced candidate for mayor of Jersey City in 2025.
