The Human Fundraising Machine keeps swelling his warchest.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) raised $1,207,322 during the 3rd quarter of 2020, bringing his cash-on-hand to a hefty $8,635,290 with less than three weeks to go before facing the voters in his bid for re-election to a third term in Congress.
The Bergen County Democrat has raised a towering $6,363,597 so far this cycle, and an astronomic $18.25 million since becoming a candidate for Congress in 2015.
The Republican candidate in New Jersey’s 5th district, investment banker Frank Pallotta, reported today that he loaned another $1 million to his campaign to unseat Gottheimer. Pallotta has now put more than $1.4 million into his own campaign.
Pallotta raised $224,722 on top of his personal contribution and has $694,529 cash-on-hand.
Gottheimer has also raised more than $2.2 million for other Democratic congressional candidates, and held an event last month that brought in more than $100,000 for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
He unseated seven-term Rep. Scott Garrett (R-Wantage) in 2016 by four percentage points and was re-elected by sixteen points in 2018.
Donald Trump carried New Jersey’s 5th district by one percentage point in 2016– a 4,089-vote plurality.
The district now has 17,269 more Democrats than Republicans. That’s a shift from a GOP registration advantage of 2,370 on Election Day 2016.
Gottheimer won a 66% victory against a progressive challenger in the Democratic primary.
