In the 12-candidate Democratic primary for New Jersey’s 12th congressional district, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (EASRCC) is going with Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson (D-Trenton).

“Verlina Reynolds-Jackson has consistently stood up for working people in New Jersey and understands what it takes to build a strong workforce,” EASRCC executive secretary-treasurer William Sproule said in a statement. “She has been an advocate for policies that protect workers’ rights, expand access to good-paying union jobs, and invest in economic growth. Her leadership reflects the same values our union fights for every day, and we’re proud to support her.”

The EASRCC, which represents more than 10,000 New Jersey carpenters and tradespeople, is the second major union to endorse Reynolds-Jackson; earlier this month, the five-term assemblywoman was endorsed by the Communications Workers of America District 1.

One of Reynolds-Jackson’s opponents, Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp, received an endorsement yesterday from the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association. The winner of the Democratic primary, which features two other sitting elected officials and several well-funded newcomers, will be the heavy favorite to replace retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing).
