New Jerseyans cast 13,268 in-person votes on Saturday, the first day of early voting in advance of the November 7 general election, according to an analysis by Associated Press election researcher Ryan Dubicki.
That’s about half of the 26,658 early votes cast on Day 1 in 2022, and less than the 19,192 early votes cast on the first day in 2021.
Democrats cast 51% of the early votes on Saturday, with 33% from Republicans and 15.5% from unaffiliated voters.
Monmouth County leads the state in early votes, with Republicans outpacing Democrats, 860-746. Hudson County is second; 68% of those votes came out of the 33rd legislative district, where State Sen. Brian P. Stack (D-Union City) is seeking re-election. The 33rd produced more early votes on Day 1 than any legislative district in the State.
In competitive races, the 11th district cast the most votes on Saturday.
In the most closely-watched legislative districts in the state, neither party shows a clear advantage after just one day of early voting:
District 2: 322 early votes cast; 46% from Republicans, 39% from Democrats, and 14% from unaffiliateds.
District 3: 411 early votes cast; 39% from Democrats, 43% from Republicans, and 8% from unaffiliateds.
District 4: 257 early votes cast; 39% from Democrats, 43% from Republicans, and 8% from unaffiliateds.
District 8: 400 early votes cast; 53% from Democrats, 31% from Republicans, and 16% from unaffiliateds.
District 11: 820 early votes cast; 39% from Democrats, 43% from Republicans, and 8% from unaffiliateds.
District 14: 522 early votes cast; 48% from Democrats, 31% from Republicans, and 20% from unaffiliateds.
District 16: 751 early votes cast; 54% from Democrats, 25% from Republicans, and 21% from unaffiliateds.
District 30: 234 early votes cast; 51% from Republicans, 32% from Democrats, and 16% from unaffiliateds.
District 37: 214 early votes cast; 54% from Democrats, 32% from Republicans, and 13% from unaffiliateds.
New Jersey’s nine-day early voting period began on Saturday and will continue through Sunday, November 5. Early voting locations are open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
