Murphy Statement on DSP and PCA Provisions in Budget Plan Approved by Committee

By NJG Press Releases, June 17 2019 3:57 pm

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Carol Murphy (D-Burlington) issued the following statement on passage of the budget proposal out of committee Monday:

“Lessening the impact of minimum wage on residents who perform invaluable tasks for the state’s most vulnerable populations such as direct service providers and personal care assistants was a top priority for this year’s fiscal spending plan. The care and services these professionals provide to their clients are by no means minimum wage work, but unfortunately as an unintended result of New Jersey’s pending minimum wage increase, that is exactly what they will be earning.

“To correct this and support the admirable work they do for our residents’ with disabilities, we’ve included a total of $41 million in funding in our budget for the upcoming Fiscal year. We’ve presented a sound, fiscal plan that places residents’ priorities at the forefront by helping those who work hard for our families each and every day.”
