The South Jersey Transportation Authority discussed removing Ocean County Republican chairman George Gilmore as their lead attorney hours before he was convicted on charges that he failed to file employee payroll taxes and for making false statements on a loan application, according to an authority official.
New Jersey Commissioner of Transportation Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, who chairs the authority, sought the ouster of the GOP leader’s law firm, Gilmore and Monahan, earlier this morning. Commissioners asked that the decision be postponed until after the jury reached their verdict.
There was no vote on the proposal.
The official suggested that the authority could reconvene as early as this week to make a final decision on Gutierrez-Scaccetti’s proposal, indicating that a majority of the board are now prepared to terminate Gilmore.
Gilmore’s law firm has numerous public clients.
