Gov. Phil Murphy has named Laurie Doran, who spent 32 years at the Central Intelligence Agency, as acting director of the New Jersey office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
Doran becomes the first woman to hold the post, which was created after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
She will replace Jared Maples, who is departing on Sunday to become the chief security advisor of the National Hockey League.
“Laurie has served our country and our state honorably for over three decades, and she could not be more qualified for this role,” said Murphy.
Doran has been director of the Intelligence and Operations division since 2018. At the CIA, she worked mainly overseas in the Directorate of Operations as a senior manager and operations officer.
At the NJOHSP, Doran worked with federal, state and local law enforcement officials and with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
